Never Doubt

I’ve learned over time
I think you should too
Don’t ever tell God
What He’s unable to do

He does as He chooses
He wounds, and He heals
He answers to no one
It’s all in His will

So if you have questions
If you are filled with self doubt
Give it over to Jesus
Let Him work it out

He likes to get credit
And of course as He should
If it is for His glory
It is for your good

John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Ge 18:14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD?

Break Heaven

I’ll break heaven
I’ll crush earth
I’ll change seasons
To prove your worth

Nothing can stand
Between Me and you
You are precious to me
My death proves it too

You were created in love
Your value is great
Return to your Creator
Your original state

I will remake your mind
I will remove all your sin
I’ll move heaven and earth
To welcome you in

Come home My child
From the darkness of fear
Come out of the cold
Your Deliverer is here

Ps 18:15 Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.

Ps 18:16 He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.

Ps 18:17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.

I Pray You Fail

I pray that you fail completely
I pray that you utterly fall
That way you will have to look upwards
Only then will you hear the Lord call

But if you proceed on your strength
If you succeed on your own
You will never look upward to heaven
You will think you did it alone

But God gives you grace to surrender
He gives grace by the troubles you see
He wants your heart to be tender
He wants you to bend down on your knee

So if it takes failure to break you
If it takes trials of pain
Let God use it so He can remake you
To never on self depend again

Ps 34:6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

Jas 1:2  All joy count it, my brethren, when ye may fall into temptations manifold;

Jas 1:3 knowing that the proof of your faith doth work endurance,

Jas 1:4 and let the endurance have a perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire–in nothing lacking;

She Ordered Chicken

A desperate African man walks into a room of very content and smiling missionaries.  He is desperate because he is trying to find a source for food for 300 school children whom he feeds and educates by donor support.  They are content and smiling as each of them has just started in on their second slice of a variety of pizzas and the grease and cheese illuminates their smiles.

It sounds like a joke.  It is not.  It actually happened.  The only person who did not have a pizza grin on their face was my wife.  She ordered chicken.  This aberrant behavior delayed the delivery of our pizza, but that is a story for another day.  Suffice it to say, we were very hungry, or ready to eat at least and we did not openly display our dismay to the delivery man and certainly not to my wife.

As I went on to explain to the man that we were very short of support because of the economic meltdown, I was at least courteous enough to offer him a slice of pizza.  He was deferential enough to decline.

I wiped the grease from my face, took a swig of cold Coca Cola and escorted him to the back door, continuing to advise him of the dilemma faced by Americans as they are forced to make decisions about downsizing their cars, cable television and even their favorite vacation spots.  I assured him that we would take his request under advisement and find a way to help feed the children.  He explained to me that the price of food had doubled over the last year, where it now cost about $50 to feed 300 children for a week, as opposed to $25 one year ago.  I had to use my napkin to wipe.  Not the tear from my eye, but the tomato paste from my mouth.  Bad form to say no with lipstick.

One of the men in our group was much wiser than I. He promptly reached into his pocket and gave a crisp $100 bill to the man.  He then went on to say that he would make sure we took this under immediate, not careful, later consideration.  This, he assured our visitor, would make sure that the children ate the next day.

I gulped.  It was actually a burp.  Cold soda can do that when mixed with the thin crust pizza.  I should have ordered chicken.

James 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

James 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

The Closer I Get

The closer I get to Him
Seems the less I know
Yet He tells me to come closer
He says that I must grow

But He remains a bit elusive
So difficult to reach
So aloof, so exclusive
How can He really teach?

How can He teach about closeness?
How can He teach about love?
What can He say about happiness?
From way up there above.

He’s unsearchable, unknowable
No matter how hard I try
And yet when I call upon Him
He is standing there right by

He says if I truly knew Him
I’d know that He’s uknown
Then within the same moment
He calls me His precious own

What a conundrum of questions
A complex set of rules
When I try to tell others
They count me with fools

Yet this God is so real
He gives me a personal touch
Then I realize if I knew all
I’d indeed know way too much

For He alone deserves glory
He alone deserves praise
So I can completely trust His heart
When I don’t understand His ways

One day I will only know Him fully
As I myself am fully known
When I move from this earthly tent
And into my heavenly home

Jer 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Ro 11:33  O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

1Co 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Dirty Sheep

The pastor prayed this prayer
My Father please do hear
Just give me clean sheep Lord
Now let me make this clear

Those with coats that shine
Not those matted with manure
I want this church of mine
To be spiritually mature

Send me sheep that are well heeled
You know, financially, fat as pigs
So when I have appealed
They don’t have far to dig

They won’t ask me for much
A decent sermon now and then
An occasional ‘slain in the spirit touch’
No bible standards to defend

But those sheep smell and make noise
They are offensive to nose and ears
They take away the sweet joys
They are not equal to my peers

In fact if it’s no bother
Send other churches those unclean lambs
Just send me the goats dear Father
I feel at ease with sparkling rams

And with that prayer complete
He knew God indeed had heard
A goat instantly did bleat
God was true to His word

The church grew strong and vibrant
Every member with new cars and clothes
Not a stinky sheep amongst them
And not a single redeemed soul

Mt 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly
they are ravening wolves.

Mt 25:33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

Two Become One

When you are together I am there
I watch how both of you share
As you caress and tease
As you touch and please
I smile with with great ease
I am there

For I am honored as you two become one
I am glorified as you honor my Son
For as you honor your vows
It enables, allows
A joy that is surpassed by none

Eph 5:31: For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

Eph 5:32: This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Protectors and Predators

She had the nerve to get pregnant before we had sexual intercourse!  Now she expects me to marry her.  I have my reputation to uphold.  My family will not hear of it.  How do I know if she will stop these sexual exploits after we are married?

I would guess those are some of the thoughts that went through Joseph’s mind those 2,000 plus years ago.  If Joseph would have asked me, I would have advised him to leave that harlot, slut, hussy of a woman.  I would tell him to leave her to her own devices.  However, Joseph saw himself as a protector.  He would refuse to show up on T.V. asking for a paternity test.

Most families lack a protector.  Many families, in fact, are headed by predators.  The difficult thing about a protector is anticipation and vigilance.  It is not good enough to meet the enemy once it is in the door.  It is best to keep the enemy from even gaining access to the threshold.  It is not good enough to just let those in their care ‘get what they deserve’.  A protector always protects, even when they are rebuked by those in their care and rejected by those watching from outside.

Protectors, who do their jobs well, anticipate.  They see dangers where those of the household see only friends and comfort.  Protectors, who do their jobs well, are vigilant.  They awaken early, and sleep late.  That is not the literal sense of what I mean, it is the spiritual sense.  They spend time with the Father asking for strength, guidance, and protection so they themselves will be able to provide the same for those in their charge.

It is not easy being protector.  That is why so few men do it well, or at all.  Many more men are predators than protectors.  They pillage the family for its resources.  They take and never give.  They allow any enemy to invade, and often invite the enemy in to the lives of those whom they are called to protect.

Pray for your protectors.  Pray that God will infuse them with the wisdom, stamina, diligence and commitment to do their jobs as it pleases Him.  If your protector pleases God, rest assured, you are protected.  Joseph was such a man.  He pleased God, and God brought protection to Mary and the baby Jesus.

It is the protector who anticipates things going bump in the night of your lives, and then goes to see what it was.  Joseph spent time with God.  God would awaken Joseph in the night and advise him where to go and when.  We need men, husbands and fathers like Joseph.

Matt 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

Matt 2:12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

Instead

I asked him if he’d been to church
He paused and then softly said
I haven’t had a thing to eat today
I just watched your life instead
I asked if she’d opened a Bible
She looked up and in anger turned red
My children are hungry and cold
I just watched your life instead
I asked if he prayed before sleeping
He paused and then raised his head
The guards beat and mistreat me
I just watched your life instead
I asked if she’d like to meet Jesus
She showed me just blankets, no bed
It is cold and at night men come for me
I just watched your life instead
Oh the luxury of asking soft questions
To those who live hard lives I would dread
My religion means not what I speak
As they watch what I live instead

James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Matt 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

I Pray You Die

I pray you die before you die
I hope you truly learn to live
I pray that you will on God rely
To teach you to forgive
I cannot wait ‘til others
Have done just right by me
I must embrace sisters and brothers
If I want to live eternally
That means I must have death
In order to live life at its best
And before I draw my last breath
I must pass this final test
Have I learned to forgive, forget
Did I learn to forgive again
Or am standing on my rights yet
Waiting for the other to give in
Die to the hope of getting even
Go ahead and let go of past pain
Die to the thoughts of sweet revenge
Die to self, be born again

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
