Every Soul Matters

Every soul matters
Each is special to Me
Every life is important
This I want you to see

When he begs on the corner
When her body she bares
He snorts, smokes or injects
Do more than just stare

Don’t demean or disgrace
Don’t pretend you don’t see
Every life is important
Every soul matters to Me

Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard. Proverbs 21:13 KJV

Wealthless not Worthless

Are the wealthless worthless?
Does God know their names?
Do the dispossessed matter?
Or only those rich with fame?

Do the penniless count?
Should the naked stay bare?
Does God even notice?
Does God even care?

When the hungry do faint
When the wounded do cry
Does God intervene?
Or stand idly by?

I accuse You Creator
You should intervene
You watch disasters unfold
You were first on the scene

Then I heard His soft voice
Yes, it matters to Me
Now I give you a choice
You can answer their plea

You can comfort the lost
Provide shelter from cold
You can visit the prisons
Use the advantage you hold

Give the thirsty clean water
Those blind to hope, help them see
Tell the wealthless they are worthy
They are made worthy by Me

Matthew 25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

Occurred

Has it ever occurred to yo
That it never occurred to Me
All the things you decided to do
Are the things I foresaw I did see

I am neither distraught or dismayed
Neither confused or surprised
The events and things you call news
Have long played out in my eyes

You can relax and take a deep breath
Take confidence I AM all that is true
I don’t predict, set in motion
Nothing is out of my power or purview

And here’s why: God gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in Knowledge and Understanding. He’s a rich mine of Common Sense for those who live well, a personal bodyguard to the candid and sincere. He keeps his eye on all who live honestly, and pays special attention to his loyally committed ones.
Proverbs 2:6‭-‬8 MSG

Now

I worry about the future
The why when who and how
Don’t focus on what will come
Pay attention to the now

Self absorbed, self centered
At the altar to myself I bow
Worrying can’t change the future
Pay attention to the now

Needless concern, sleep lost
Greet morning with furrowed brow
If God’s in control
Pay attention to the now

“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
Matthew 6:34 MSG

A picture of God

The man looked on in cynicism as the little girl composed a picture of God. She was only 6 years old and her crayons were scattered chaotically on the floor. She obviously had no idea of what she was doing.

He asked her with a sneer; “Nobody really knows what God looks like. So why are you doing this?”

Her simple answer was; “Well they will know what He looks like when they see my picture of Him!”

I was reminded by a friend that I must live my life in such a way that people who don’t know Jesus but do know me, will want to know Jesus because they do know me.

We live in a world of chaotically scattered crayons. Families members not speaking, neighbors ignoring neighbors, nations at war, famine, disaster and disease scatter the landscape of our lives. Can we draw a picture of God in this?

This is the God who created order from chaos. Can He use us to do the same?

We have the ministry of reconciliation. That is the picture we are to draw.

And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
2 Corinthians 5:18 KJV

What kind of picture am I drawing?

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16 KJV

More Mercy and Grace

I squandered my health
My wealth I did waste
I asked God’s forgiveness
God gave more mercy and grace

I offended and abused
Behind backs and straight to face
Now alone, who will love me
God gave more mercy and grace

When the world has abandoned
When you^ve no hiding place
I AM never forsakes you
God gives more mercy and grace

If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
Psalms 139:8 KJV

I Looked Closer at Your Sin

I looked closer at your sin
And mine looked even worse
I had assumed you as unworthy
When it is I who deserve the curse

The deeper I descended
Into the well of your dark past
The greater God’s light showed
His mercy does outlast

So as I look
Beneath the lashes
To see the splinter in your eye
The reflection in your pupil
Gives me cause to wonder why

Why is my God so merciful
Why is God so kind
I do and think such evil
And He doesn’t Seem to mind

For if God can overlook
My failings faults and selfishness
He can bring deliverance
He can handle anybody’s mess!

“Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. Don’t condemn those who are down; that hardness can boomerang. Be easy on people; you’ll find life a lot easier.

Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.”
Luke 6:37‭-‬38 MSG

Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.
Luke 6:42 KJV

Such a Stink

No I didn’t think
And yes I ignored
You had such a stink
Who could know you as Lord?

Filthy beyond recognition
Shopping carts garbage bags
Might I make a suggestion?
Don’t dress in those rags

If you want to be praised
Worshipped and adored
Don’t look bewildered and crazed
Who wants that kind of Lird?

So clean up your act
Change motif and attire
Then see me react
I’ll even join the church choir

There was nothing attractive about him, nothing to cause us to take a second look.

He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand.

One look at him and people turned away. We looked down on him, thought he was scum.
Isaiah 53:2‭-‬6 MSG

When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Matthew 25:38‭-‬40 KJV

The Cure of Caring

She was only 22 and this was her 4th bout of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. At least as far as she could remember. She did recall that in the past year she had at least 4 male sexual partners. In my hurry, I neglected to remind her she was precious and important to God. She need not continue this lifestyle. She needed to know I cared.

He was 34 and had only one male sexual partner for at least the last year or more. We had just treated him for Gonorrhea two weeks ago and he had the same symptoms today. In my hurry and personal disgust, I neglected to remind him that he is valuable. He needed to know I cared.

I am only as important as I make the person in front of me feel. I am only as peaceful and joyous as I seek to impart peace and joy to others.

The most frail and fragile person whom I encounter needs to gain strength and hope. This should be my objective for every single clinical encounter. Endeavor to make the weak feel strong. Aim to give a smile to the sorrowful. Not just the right diagnosis and treatment are needed, but caring about this person.

Both the woman and the man I had just met felt betrayed and frustrated by the lack of safe sexual intimacy. They are too weak to deny the desire they or their partners of their own flesh. They see no reason to do so.

I know what is morally right. But this brief 15 minute encounter should not add chaos in their lives. I am called to listen and remind them of God’s grace and love. I am to offer the cure of caring.

They are brokenhearted and bruised.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Luke 4:18 KJV

My Mama is Watching

She was bent over at about 60゚ leaning forward on a walker. Simultaneously trying to hold open the swinging door, not spill her hot cup of coffee nor lose the barrette in her graying hair. The tremors in her hand made this negotiation even more difficult. I got up from my chair. My Mama was watching.

Truthfully speaking my mom was nowhere to be found. She was hundreds of miles away and yet as near as this elderly woman trying to avoid falling and breaking her hip and burning herself with this hot coffee.

O thank you so much young man, she explained. Your mom must have taught you well. I answered her. Yes indeed she did. And she’s watching now.

I wonder how many boys and girls now become Men and women have ever had the kind of instruction and moral guidance that follows them to always do the right thing.

My mama taught me to always love, always forgive and always do my best especiall for those whom I felt deserve it the least. She still lives by these words.

This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that.
Matthew 5:43‭-‬47 MSG

Like many young men I did not have a father to give me these values. But I did have a mama. She taught me that higher authority rests with my Creator. She taught me that ultimately I would have to answer to my Father in heaven, even if I had no earthly father for an example.

Let me get that door for you. Let me steady your walker. You hold onto your coffee and I will look for the barrette.

Even if you don’t have a mama or daddy remember that God is watching.

My mama told me God is watching and if He missed it, she didn’t.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
