Is it possible for God to look devious? Is it possible for the almighty to look unappealing? As I read my Bible, this is the way the God I serve appears to the majority of people in the world. The common complaint is, if He is God, why is he so unfair? Why does He overlook the evil that is clearly, obviously and blatantly committed, even by those who claim to know Him?
This is a devious God to them and it is no wonder why they choose not to acknowledge, let alone worship Him. It is better to most people to serve the God that appears pleasing to them, gods of pleasure, who overlook our faults and allow our personal excesses. That is the kind of god most people want. The God of the Bible shows himself devious to those who don’t know Him and will always appear disgusting from their vantage point.
It takes an eye of faith to see the Creator in a pleasant, sweet light.
Psalm 18:25-26 To the faithful you show yourself faithful to the blameless you show yourself blameless, to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the devious you show yourself shrewd.
