If God ever retires
Or ever grows weary
I am ready to take over
I told Him this quite clearly
I’ve seen what You do
Please allow me to say
The reason you’re worn out
Is You work the wrong way
You give grace and forgiveness
To unworthy and undeserving
It takes twice long to distribute
And quite honest, it’s unnerving
Granting both mercy and kindness
Without measure or merit
Ignoring good people like me
As if you can’t spare it
The reason You’re tired
And ready to rest
Is that you haven’t the good sense
To distinguish good and the best
So many poor are lazy
Refuse to work themselves
If they really are hungry
Let them put food on their shelves
I will streamline distribution
Getting rid of hangers-on
If you decide to come back to work
You will see the job I’ve done
Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, When it is in the power of thine hand to do it. Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, And to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.
