Be Sure To Wash Your Hands

One thing that really changed society after COVID-19 pandemic was the importance of washing your hands. Yes, covering your face, keeping safe distance was important, but what really lingers is hand washing.

I must always consider, what if everyone washed their hands as thoroughly as I washed mine? Or, maybe even worse, what if they washed just as briefly as I washed mine. I had better go back and wash again! I must demand a higher standard for myself than I expect of others.

The same thing can be said of leadership. I must demand greater integrity, sincerity and compassion than I expect of others. It is not that other people won’t do the right thing, however, I can never ask others to do right thing if I as a leader do the wrong thing.

I must lead by example. That example must strive for excellence. My speech, the words I choose, my actions, how I treat others and even my thoughts must aim for purity. I must thoroughly wash my hands even when I don’t know how others wash theirs.

I cannot lead by intent. I must lead by integrity. It is never enough to say I meant to do well, especially when I know I set my standards low, allowing excuses for my bad behavior. I know I can do better. I must demand more of myself than I expect of others. I must thoroughly wash my hands especially before I shake yours.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
James 4:8 KJV
