Proclaim or Protest

Before I begin, please let me apologize. I don’t mean to make light of anyone’s position on the challenges we face as a nation and church. There is no single approach to the evil before us.

Jesus clearly stated that man does not live by bread alone. But as He fed the five thousand people, He acknowledged that man does need bread. When confronted by the accusers of the woman caught in the very act of adultery (somehow the man escaped), rather than repudiate those accusing, He gave them a choice to consider their own evil acts. The approach to what confronts us as believers in Christ must be as He stated wise as snakes but peaceful as doves.

We are in this world but not of the world. We are called to be salt and light in a dark and decaying world. The only way to do this is to proclaim the promise not protest the problem. Protesting may change minds and habits, maybe even laws and customs. But only proclaiming Christ can change hearts.

The Lord never asked us to protest, although He didn’t prohibit it. He never said we should ask for government intervention, however, He didn’t forbid it. He stated He would answer and address our grievances if we humble ourselves and pray to Him.

As people of God, we are called to love people who proclaim Christ to the world, and admonish them to protect the poor and provide His love to our enemies.

If we do that God will answer our prayers and heal our land.

Yes, we may protest the problem. However our God listens when we praise His name and proclaim His promise.

if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV

People will know we are His by our love.

The Nazarene Narrative met at City Hall Philadelphia this week to proclaim unity in the body of Christ by praying together. Denominations, cultures, colors and customs were all surrendered so we could proclaim the name Jesus.
