Jesus Flips Coins

I am confused. I don’t know how to vote. One party supports hedonism fulfilling every fleshly desire with anyone, anytime and possibly soon anything. The other chooses power at any price, controlling everyone, everything all the time. How do I choose? Choose the power of pleasure or the pleasure of power.

What would Jesus do? Who would Jesus choose?

As I read the Bible, Jesus flipped a coin.

But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Cæsar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which are Cæsar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.
Matthew 22:18‭-‬21 KJV

As recorded in Matthew’s gospel, religious leaders expected the Lord to make a choice between religion and power. Power feels good. Coercing people to do the right thing, feels as good as any drug, or physical stimulation.

The choice is between holiness, hedonism and self righteous anger. The Lord refused to be forced to choose. Instead, He flipped a coin.

Jesus merely reiterated what Joshua stated.

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Joshua 24:15 KJV

We have choices. Choose political alliance to advance our perception of what is good and right, or the Kingdom of God. Advance Christ’s Kingdom or your political party to make the right choices without regard for our perceived or expected outcomes.

You can’t serve 2 gods.

No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Luke 16:13 KJV

The people wanted Jesus as king and He refused. He knew mankind would try to use Him to advance their personal desires.

Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did. But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, and needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
John 2:23‭-‬25 KJV

Those desires were no different from ours. Domination by the power of pleasure or or the pleasure of power.

Jesus flipped the coin. It is not your method but your motive. The choice you make is superceded by will of God. When you have no good choices flip the coin. Christ will prevail.
